Source: FTIR spectra were measured at the Istituto di Chimica Agraria, Universita di Bari, Bari, Italy; Solution-state 13C NMR spectra were excerpted from the report of Thorn et al. (1989). The corresponding distribution of organic carbon was obtained by electronically integrating peak areas for selected ranges of chemical shift. Fluorescence spectra were provided by Dr. Monika Takacs and Dr. James Alberts, University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia, U.S.A.
An * means that a sample is no longer available, and nd means that an item was not determined.
